For me personally, it's painful to think that I ask others to "role-play" with my "non-physical, gender issue" and "clear physical incongruence", and I might cause difficulties for others to make them think twice before they address me (he? she? they? man? woman?). It can me being ENTP (with painful "relationship" function) or just me being uncertain and cringy about myself, so I feel others' cringe.

There's also another fact about being transsexual. Many (if not most) either lose a job, have to work a job that pays less, work under the table, or move to being a sex worker of some sort. Mostly to make ends meet, let alone save up for surgery (in countries where it is not covered).

As one of the other transexuals in the forum here, I have to agree 100% with you. I have been fortunate to work in the IT/software engineering field where I never had to resort to sex work, but did have to work under the table for a few years but was always able to make ends meet. I was able to get into a good paying position now and make very good money and have a house and everything, but it took nearly 10 years to do that. I am also fortunate to have passing privilege with only having bottom surgery, which was life-saving for me. It took 4 years of transitioning, 2 years of seeing a therapist and all kinds of hoops to go through to get approved for surgery, but I did it and have zero regrets except for not transitioning earlier.

So I was one of the ones who had to resort to sex work. First as escort, later added pro domming, and making clips to sell. Out of the hundreds of us TS's that I know, very very few kept a job or were able to get an actual job. And many even after gender confirming surgery.

I know several that kept their job but only in areas where anti-discrimination gender identity laws existed (NYC Area), but most were in the IT industry. Even in those areas, I know many that were fired for transitioning, but it's not always easy to prove discrimination. Where I live now in TN, there are zero laws to prevent discrimination. (The city nearby did have a law, but the state passed another law prevent a city from have a anti-discrimination law not aeady in the state... US state laws are weird.) This cities in this part of the US are liberal, but the state law makers are ultra conservative. I was also able to update all my documents which since last year, several states have prevented that. Trans rights are big political topic here at the moment and fortunately I am blend in and although my employer is pro-LGBT (they know I am a lesbian being married to a woman), they really do not know I am trans.

Yeah, we get the US news up here in Canada, and the transphobia that started in politics there has made its way here now. My friends in some states fear for their lives, others have left the US for here and other countries, and one friend was beaten within an inch of her life. And it's not that much better up here - I've been physically attacked 3 times. Can't count the verbal attacks.

Yep, proving discrimination can be hard in a lot of cases. I had to go "drab" a couple of times to secure an apartment and use my dead name. Otherwise I'd be homeless again.
